Complaints
General Complaints
Do you have a complaint about something that happened at school?
In most cases, complaints can be resolved quickly through early, informal conversations. We encourage parents and guardians, students, and staff to discuss their concerns directly with the school employee(s) in question.
If the person making the complaint (complainant) is unable or unwilling to resolve the complaint directly with the person(s) involved, he/she may submit an oral or written complaint to the employee’s immediate supervisor or school principal.
Uniform Complaint Policy and Procedure
Northern United Charter Schools has the primary responsibility to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and shall investigate complaints alleging failure to comply with those laws and regulations, including but not limited to, allegations of unlawful discrimination, harassment, intimidation, or bullying against any protected group or noncompliance with laws relating to all programs and activities implemented by the School that are subject to UCP as cited within this policy.
The School shall seek to resolve those complaints of noncompliance in accordance with procedures in §§4600-4687 of Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations and the School’s policies and procedures under the UCP, including allegations of retaliation for participation in the UCP process and/or to appeal District decisions regarding such complaints.
Title IX Complaint Policy and Procedure
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces, among other statutes, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
